Fees and other questions

How much are the sessions?

The initial assessment session of 30 minutes is completely free.
Fees vary, and in certain situations it may be possible to offer a discount, depending on the client's circumstances. There will also be a discount if the client books 3 or 6 sessions, and pays for them in advance.

Where are you based?

I  am based in Bridport, but I also practice in Dorchester, Christchurch, and Fareham (Hampshire); or via Skype or Face Time. It is also possible for me to travel within the South West by arrangement, and I accept referrals from GPs, the NHS and insurance companies. My counselling rooms are quiet, comfortable and will enable you to feel safe and relaxed. Information with regard to travel, location and parking will be given to you at the time of booking.

What happens at the first appointment?
The first appointment will be an assessment session of thirty minutes and will be an opportunity for you to outline the nature of your issue(s), ask questions and to see if you feel comfortable working with me. This part of the process is very important, because in order for the therapeutic relationship to work, there needs to be mutual trust and openness. If you feel that you want to work with me, then we can plan further appointments.

How many sessions will I need?
This varies considerably, but is usually between 4 and 8 sessions. This will be discussed at the initial assessment and reviewed regularly. Each session lasts for approximately 55 minutes.

Can I bring my partner or friend?
I believe that the best counselling environment is one in which there is total privacy. Sometimes a therapy session may cause the client to recall buried events or emotions and this would be best expressed privately and in confidence, so for this reason I see the client alone.

Are you insured?
Yes, I have professional liability insurance. I also have a recent CRB check available to view on request.

Are you a member of a professional body?
Yes, I am a member of the BACP and governed by their ethical framework, which can be viewed

I have regular supervision and  enhance my skills by means of continued professional development.

What else do I need to know?
I require clients to pay for each session in advance, so if you decide that you want to work with me at your initial assessment, you must leave payment for your next session. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or online. If a client wishes to cancel or re-schedule an appointment, they must give at least 24hrs notice by text or email, or they will lose their advance payment for the missed session.
